We’ve got a brand new post category for you on Popshopology. One where we’ve got the poison, and (hopefully) you’ve got the remedy. Do you think you’ve got what it takes to be an Expert Shopologist? Do you like to win prizes? Lets put your shopping skills to the test! We’re drawing inspiration for this weeks Challenge from the classic film “16 Candles”.

The Problem: Sam is turning 16 and no-one has noticed. Her Grandmother felt her up. She’s pining for Jake Ryan and doesn’t think she has a prayer of a chance. And to top it all off, a bunch of people just paid a buck apiece to see her underwear.

The Retail Therapy Solution: Is entirely up to you! What should Sam buy? What little pick-me-up of a purchase would make her feel better?

Leave your Retail Therapy recommendations for Sam in the comments section below. Best Retail Therapy RX will be selected and posted next Friday. Winner gets to take home Jake Ryan! Just kidding. But we will send you this classic film on DVD.

Note: this post is sticky, which is why it’s staying at the top. Never fear, there are new prescriptions below

When feeling ignore and rejected, I always turn to electronics. I nice new Mac oughtta do the trick. Or a shiny new ipod. oooh a Kindle! Shiny new electronics are great because
    a) you can turn them on, even when you’re feeling completely un-turn-on-able :o )
    b) it takes so much brain power to figure out the new gadget that you can’t possibly think about your troubles
    c) figuring it out makes you feel smart, which is always good!
    d) gadgets can make you feel connected – had she purchased a BB Storm, she could have thrown herself an online birthday party with e-friends!

Yes, new electronic gadgets bring me great joy. Oh – the nerdiness of it all… But I think Sam would be with me here! She’d totally be a facebook stalker/twitter addict if she were here in ’09! Don’t you think?

It’s cliche but chocolate is every girl’s bad day fixer! But here’s some that won’t get you down later when you realize you’ve devoured an entire box in under 5 minutes:

She just turned 16! Nail polish in 10 different shades of pink!
(Because as we all know, she was also “Pretty In Pink!”)
    I like OPI!

This is from my friend Maria who wrote this on my FB page regarding this:
“She needs Verseo Enhance Breast Forms (“cutlets”) and Bath and Body Works Aromatherapy in ‘Sensual”"

I think that the girl could use a chastity belt with all of the creepiness going on. Grandma feels you up, pervy geeks on your tail ever step you take, foreign exchange student looking for action, and the sister’s fiance seems a little bit “up for anything”. And, willing to throw herself at Jake…chastity belt. She’ll thank you for it later when she doesn’t have a screaming baby or VD for her 17th birthday. http://www.adultdvdandtoyland.com/gwspl08u2.html

She’s sixteen (driving age in most states except NJ where I grew up) and she needs to get away from a Grandma who feels her up, a brother-in-law who doesn’t know the difference between his wife and his sister-in-law, some weirdo at school who showed her underwear to the entire “geek squad” and top it off with the fact that no one remembers that it IS her birthday. She needs one of these: http://www.vw.com/newbeetlecon/gallery/en/us/#/exterior/0/ – perfect for a 16 year old on the go!

Lipstick for sure. A hot pink would look swanky with that red hair.

Sam needs new panties, of course. Giving her panties to a geek is a major moment in the movie – and now she has NONE.
